Resource Guide: “Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs at Tribal Colleges and Universities”

Volume 29, No. 1 – Fall 2017
MAP OF TRIBAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES THAT OFFER BACHELOR'S AND MASTER'S DEGREES

Tribal colleges and universities that offer bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.

The tribal colleges and universities (TCUs) continue to grow and change in order to meet the needs of their communities. Over the past four years, the number of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at TCUs has increased significantly. For many years, Oglala Lakota College and Sinte Gleska University were the only TCUs to offer master’s degree programs. In fall 2013, Navajo Technical University and the Institute of American Indian Arts joined them, followed soon after by Sitting Bull College. Today, 14 institutions offer baccalaureate programs and five offer master’s degree programs. Now a student can begin a program of study in a certificate or associate’s degree program, continuing without pause through to a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree without leaving the TCU system.

Compiled from the American Indian Higher Education Consortium’s (AIHEC’s) American Indian Measures of Success dataset and updated at the end of the spring 2017 term, this guide provides a listing of all accredited advanced degree programs offered at AIHEC-affiliated TCUs. Full contact information for each TCU can be found in the directory on page 62.

Katherine Page is the research and policy associate for AIHEC.
