The Navajo Nation Oil and Gas Company has awarded Navajo Technical University (NTU) $50,000 for student scholarships. A meeting was held in the university president’s conference room where Dr. Elmer Guy, NTU president, met with Mr. McClure, CEO of Navajo Nation Oil and Gas, to discuss creating opportunities for NTU students. This award from the company was made possible by NTU’s financial aid manager, Gary Segay, who reached out to Navajo Petroleum for a possible donation to NTU.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to apply themselves, we are continuing to create pathways and partnerships for our students to succeed,” said Dr. Guy. “This could possibly create internship opportunities for our students.”
“The donation is greatly appreciated, and we are going to apply it to institution standard and possibly in tuition,” said Gary Segay. “We will open up the scholarship to all students, not just one field; we plan to release it to our students in spring, summer, and fall.”
Navajo Nation Oil and Gas reached out to NTU’s Gary Segay and wanted a brief background of his 20 years of experience in the financial world and working at multiple institutions. Segay was asked to provide an intensive criterion for the award. From there, it was proposed to the company’s board and then the award was approved.
The award will provide NTU students further motivation to pursue their higher education goals and will offer the company incentive to provide educational material on “helium resource” for future endeavors.
