The Sustainability Club plants pumpkin seeds in the NTU garden.

The Navajo Technical University (NTU) Sustainability Club celebrated Mother Earth Week on April 23 and 24, 2024, by organizing a seed ball and planting session in the community garden. Attendees learned about ongoing projects and how they could contribute to the garden while sustaining a successful crop season.

During the session, participants learned to make seed balls using a combination of Southwest flower seeds, planting soil, and regular dirt. They could take these seed balls home or establish them outside their office windows to scatter in areas prone to erosion, creating a beautiful ecosystem that positively impacts the environment in the community.

The event was an exciting opportunity for everyone to come together on the Navajo reservation and learn new and innovative ways to beautify the land. During the event, students could toss seed balls around the campus, hoping they will bloom and add color to the surroundings. If you want to grow your seed balls, throw them into an area of your garden or green space that could use some color. This process helps with seed germination and overall plant strength, making it a great way to beautify your surroundings.

The Environmental Science Program at Navajo Technical University focuses on environmental redemption and restoration in and around Native American communities. Students gain hands-on experience in the field and learn about environmental laws and regulatory compliance. Ultimately, the program aims to prepare students to apply their knowledge and positively impact the environment.

The NTU Sustainability Club was established in 2022 and is working diligently to create several campus sustainability initiatives.
