Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College (LCOOC) recently underwent a yearlong accreditation process with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States, receiving reaffirmation through the 2030-2031 academic year.

HLC requires each accredited institution to undergo a self-study documenting how it meets the criteria set forth for accreditation, the formal recognition of the quality of an educational institution, followed by an onsite peer review. LCOOC met all 18 core components of the five criteria without conditions.

The peer review team notes, “It is evident that the mission of the college permeates all that the college has done, and what the team learned about future plans indicates that this will continue to be the case. Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College has made meaningful improvements to the services provided at the outreach sites and is in the process of developing an ambitious strategic plan. In conversation with the president, it became apparent that the college intends to continue to move aggressively into the future.”

Provost Lisa Munive states, “We greatly appreciate the efforts of the HLC Peer Team, as well as the countless hours faculty and staff dedicated to this process. Achieving reaffirmation demonstrates the dedication of the team here at LCOOC, and their steadfast belief of the college mission.” Provost Munive also expressed gratitude to the students, alumni, and community for their continued support. The college will celebrate this accomplishment during the upcoming Seven Generations Intertribal Leadership Summit, October 7-8, 2021.
