Pria Rainbow is a custom-built and programmed generative AI mentor built for Indigenous students, faculty, and educators, taking into account Native American culture and health research. The idea of Pria Rainbow was conceived by Reno Charette, the American Indian Higher Education Consortium’s program director for Native American health research initiatives, including the Aseto’ne Virtual Institute and the Native American Research Centers for Health – Building Indigenous Research Capacity in Health NARCH/BIRCH Institute.
Pria Rainbow was built by one of the pioneers in AI for education for traditionally underserved communities: Praxis AI, a mission-driven learning and technology company. Working closely with Charette and her team, Pria Rainbow was born.
Core to Pria Rainbow’s mission is a complete focus on who it is mentoring and supporting—Native American students and faculty. Pria Rainbow is currently accessible to all students, faculty, and educators within the Aseto’ne and NARCH/ BIRCH virtual institutes and helps students and researchers discover new knowledge, answer questions, develop cultural resilience and awareness, and more.
Pria Rainbow is seamlessly integrated into the digital learning platform used for AIHEC’s health initiatives, which were also developed and delivered by Praxis AI’s Learning Experience Platform (LXP). Along with seamless integration with Pria Rainbow, the LXP provides a personalized digital classroom for self-paced interactivities, virtual classes, hands-on research, and credentialing all in one place, giving tribal college and university (TCU) faculty and students everything they need to power the Aseto’ne Journey.
In its current configuration, Pria Rainbow can help Indigenous students and faculty understand the importance of cultural resilience, provide important case studies and stories, and help them engage with their local communities through personal discovery and shared learning.
Pria Rainbow learns from every user interaction, meaning it is always increasing in knowledge and improving its usefulness. It is Praxis AI’s hope that as TCU students interact with Pria Rainbow and learn from all the knowledge it has gained from Indigenous users across TCUs, they can become even more of an active, personalized participant in promoting individual and community-level cultural resilience. Pria Rainbow can be used to assist with the preservation of cultural heritage at the tribal level, becoming a personalized central repository of tribe-specific Indigenous archives and stories so they will never be forgotten and can be used to educate and inform future generations. As mentioned, Pria learns from interactions with users. A keeper of culturally precious knowledge can teach Pria at any time, from any device.
Praxis AI plans to expand Pria Rainbow’s reach beyond these health research initiatives to all TCUs and potentially beyond. The possibilities are endless. Making cultural touchpoints once lost to assimilation accessible to anyone and sparking conversations intergenerationally is how Pria Rainbow can be integral to preserving, nurturing, and fostering the Indigenous spirit. Praxis AI recognizes that there may be hesitation and discomfort around this topic and hence the company is committed to engaging in dialogue that both improves its work with Indigenous communities and acknowledges Native nations’ self-determination in utilizing this technology.
The core technology behind Pria Rainbow has been adept at multilingual communication. An exciting next step would be to teach Pria Rainbow to speak Native American languages. In collaboration with tribal communities, Praxis AI can program Pria Rainbow’s text-to-voice parameters to speak in culturally accurate Native languages, providing an important component in keeping these languages vital and alive.
