Job Description

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (EPBI) at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine seeks to fill a faculty position as Director of the MPH program. Rank and tenure status will depend on qualifications. The position will combine teaching and research with leadership of a successful and growing, CEPH-accredited MPH program.  Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in several of the following areas: community interventions (especially in urban or under-served settings), health behavior, health education and promotion, health management, health policy, health services research, qualitative and mixed methods, social epidemiology, and spatial analysis/role of place in health.

 

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in public health or population health, health promotion, sociology, or relevant field. Preference will be given to candidates with an MPH or DrPH and those with experience in teaching, curricular development, and academic program leadership. We seek candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising students, community health and engagement, and academic program administration.  

 

The MPH program boasts over 10 dual-degree programs, and a 2016 entering class of 38. The program has been growing and looks to further expand with the planned addition of new dual-degree programs with the Master of Science in Nutrition and the Master of Science in Management-Health Care. Other new public health programs going through approval include a graduate certificate and an undergraduate minor. The MPH program is housed in the department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (35 primary, full-time faculty) in the School of Medicine. The department also has thriving graduate programs in population and quantitative health sciences (PhD) and biostatistics (MS). The medical school is affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, University Hospitals, Louis Stokes V.A. Medical Center and MetroHealth Medical Center. Their healthcare systems cover almost every hospital in the Greater Cleveland area.

 

Cleveland offers a rich and supportive environment for community and public health. The Healthy Cleveland Initiative, the Better Health Partnership, and the Health Improvement Partnership-Cuyahoga (HIP-C) are strategic city- and county-wide initiatives for improving health in the local community. CWRU provides a robust and collaborative research context including opportunities to partner with all neighboring local health departments and several centers such as the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods, Center for Reducing Health Disparities, Office of Cancer Disparities Research at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Practice-based Research Networks Initiative. CWRU and its associated hospitals also provide a rich environment for clinical and population health research with significant support and resources available through the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative.
